Multi-Turn Program Testing: Evaluating Security Program Gates

Security programs evaluate decisions one by one. Loss comes from sequences of decisions that each passed review on its own. In 2023, this exact pattern let Storm-0558 forge authentication tokens using a signing key that should have expired years earlier, a chain the Cyber Safety Review Board called a cascade of avoidable errors.

This session introduces Multi-Turn Program Testing (MTPT), a method for testing the review gates themselves. Learn to reconstruct incidents as decision chains, redesign reviews to see accumulated state, and safely apply isolated AI critics.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify which review processes in your organization evaluate single decisions versus accumulated state.
  • Run a Sequence Audit: Reconstruct a decision chain and classify each decision as would-pass, would-fail, or ungoverned.
  • Redesign a review gate to offer more than approve or deny. Then apply isolated AI critics to a pending decision with the controls that keep them accountable.
