Lakebase in production: Row level security for a thousand concurrent users

Lakebase as a transactional database alongside the lakehouse. In this talk, Sebastian Diaz, SVP of Data & AI will share what happens when you build a real app on top of it: a thousand event producers checking their sales at the same time, with data less than five minutes old and each seeing only their own information.
The case involves a Latin American ticketing company whose reports were late and contained errors. At Qubika, we moved its data from DB2, through Kafka, into a medallion architecture in Databricks, and the app began reading from Lakebase. That’s where the lessons emerged: why a screen with poorly implemented row-level security took 45.8 seconds to load, what changed to bring that down to 0.03 seconds, and how to prevent the connection pool from mixing up user contexts.
