Marketing is going through one of its biggest shifts in decades. AI is changing how teams research audiences, create content, run campaigns and measure impact. Agents are starting to take over execution work, buyers increasingly discover and evaluate brands through AI assistants and answer engines, and the line between marketing, data and technology keeps getting thinner. For marketing leaders, the question is no longer whether to adopt AI, but how to do it with judgment, at scale and with results the business can measure.
In this context, marketing conferences matter more, not less. Tools change every quarter, and the fastest way to separate real progress from noise is to hear directly from the teams doing the work. The best events bring together CMOs, marketing operations leaders, creatives, analysts and technology partners to share what is working, what is not, and what is coming next.
The marketing trends shaping 2027
The research published over the last year points to a clear agenda for the year ahead. These are the shifts we expect to dominate the conversation at this year’s conferences.
1. AI agents move from pilots to execution
Agentic AI is quickly becoming part of the marketing stack. According to Gartner, 81% of martech leaders are already piloting or have implemented AI agents, yet 45% of those running them say vendor agents fall short of the promised business results, and half say their technology and data stack is not ready. CMOs expect AI to automate 36% of marketing work by 2028, up from 16% in 2026. The challenge for 2027 is less about access to agents and more about the data foundations, governance and operating models that make them deliver.
2. AI adoption is nearly universal, maturity is not
Most teams already use AI. The HubSpot 2026 State of Marketing report found that 86.4% of marketing teams use AI in at least some areas, and The CMO Survey shows marketing leaders expect AI and machine learning use to more than double over the next three years. The gap is in scale: in Gartner’s 2026 CMO Spend Survey, only 30% of organizations report mature AI readiness.
3. Budgets stay tight while more of them go to AI
Marketing budgets sit at 7.8% of company revenue in 2026, barely up from 7.7% in 2025, and CMOs already allocate an average of 15.3% of that budget to AI, according to the same Gartner survey. Expect 2027 sessions to focus on reallocating spend rather than growing it, and on where AI investments are actually paying back.
4. AI search rewrites the rules of visibility
Answer engines are becoming a new front door to brands. McKinsey reports that half of consumers already use AI powered search, that unprepared brands could lose 20% to 50% of traffic from traditional search, and that a brand’s own sites make up only 5% to 10% of the sources AI search cites. Answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) are moving from experiment to core discipline.
5. B2B buyers research with AI and validate with people
Buying journeys are changing fast. Gartner found that 45% of B2B buyers used generative AI in a recent purchase and 69% prefer to validate AI generated insights with sales reps. Looking ahead, Forrester’s 2027 B2B predictions say AI agents will influence 75% of B2B purchase decisions, buyers will double their human interactions to check AI recommendations, and two thirds of providers will lose deals because buyers cannot verify their claims. Proof, credibility and human expertise become competitive advantages.
6. Marketing has to prove its impact
Measurement is under pressure. Gartner found that 84% of companies are stuck in a cycle where underfunded measurement makes impact unclear and budgets tighter, and predicts that by 2027 more than 40% of CMOs who push for larger brand budgets without that proof will lose influence with the C suite. Connecting marketing data to revenue outcomes is one of the defining themes of the year.
7. Authenticity becomes a differentiator
As AI generated content floods every channel, originality and trust matter more. HubSpot reports that 62.7% of marketers say they need more unique, human centered content to compete, and Gartner found that 78% of consumers consider clear labeling of AI generated content very important or the most important factor for trust. Brand voice, creative direction and human judgment are where marketing teams will differentiate.
8. Events get smaller, sharper and more interactive
The event model itself is evolving. In Forrester’s State of B2B Events research, nearly 70% of event leaders are reducing the number of events they run, while two thirds plan more workshops, roundtables and structured networking. That makes choosing the right conferences, and getting the most out of them, more important than ever.
What to expect at marketing conferences
Across this list, you’ll find a mix of strategic keynotes, hands on workshops, live demos and case studies from brands of every size. The conversations that will shape the year ahead include:
- AI strategy and operating models: how marketing teams are reorganizing as agents handle more of the execution, and what humans still own, from taste and creative direction to judgment and brand
- AI for content, creative and communications: building content pipelines that scale without losing brand consistency
- Search in the age of AI: answer engine optimization (AEO), generative engine optimization (GEO) and how to earn visibility in AI generated answers when search sends fewer clicks
- Growth and demand generation: B2B demand gen, ABM, segmentation and journey orchestration powered by data and AI
- Measurement and the martech stack: rationalizing tools, connecting data across systems and proving marketing’s impact on revenue
- Brand building and creativity: storytelling and creative excellence in a market flooded with AI generated content
Why marketing conferences are still worth the investment
- Learn what’s working now: See how peers are applying AI and data in real marketing programs, beyond the vendor pitch.
- Benchmark your strategy: Compare your team’s maturity, tools and results with other organizations and industries.
- Build relationships: Meet CMOs, marketing operations leaders, agencies and technology partners in one place.
- Bring ideas back to your team: Turn sessions, workshops and conversations into concrete experiments for the quarter ahead.
